Casino gamblers laid down more bets across the United States in 2011 than the year before, but industry data shows they were more selective about where they placed their bets.
However, the comfort level of tourists willing to part with their money is trending upwards.
In Nevada, the U.S. gambling capital, gross gaming revenue reached $10.7 billion, a 2.8 percent increase from 2010, the Las Vegas Gaming Control Board reported.
Things were not so rosy in the U.S.?s second biggest gambling jurisdiction. In Atlantic City, gross revenue for 2011 fell 6.9 percent to $3.3 billion, according to the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement.
In Pennsylvania, the third largest market, annual gross revenue topped $3 billion for the first time, with a 21.6 percent increase over 2010, the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board reported.
Not all of the U.S.?s 22 states with casino gaming have reported revenue yet for fiscal year 2011. However, through November, the reported total of $32.56 billion was running 2.3 percent ahead of the first 11 months of 2010, according to data from the American Gaming Institute.
